There’s an interesting feature that I think some people might have missed from some of the most recent Assassin’s Creed Valhalla coverage. I’m not talking about the game’s multiplayer, I’m actually talking about how the game allows you to make certain choices that will impact your story. These are similar to some of the choices you’ve been able to make before in the most recent games, but I think in Valhalla they’re going to have much more of a direct impact on your story later on. These decisions will be a part of who Eivor is, but they’re also a part of who you are, and how challenging you want to make this game for yourself. In case you missed it, I’m talking about the fact that you can choose whether to let an enemy leader live or die. There are some leaders that you’ll have to beat up with nothing but your fists. That’s because you need them alive for another purpose. Other enemy leaders though, you’re able to rip them apart if you really want to. The fact that you can choose not to leaves the game open to that enemy returning though. That might not be a good thing for you.
If you best an enemy leader and kill them, their followers will most likely be scattered. They’ll run for the hills, in fear of the biking army that seems as if they’re about to overrun the country. This is the preferable outcome, because you’ll get everything that the leader had. However, if you want Eivor to be seen as a merciful leader, you need to calm down a bit.
Allowing a defeated leader to live will see them return to their people. Maybe those people will move on, or maybe they’ll stay put and just respect you moving forward. What could also happen is that the group recoups and returns for a harder battle. This leader has fought you and lived, so they know all of your tricks and fighting tactics. They’ll use that against you, and I think it’s going to make the game much harder for you, should you allow any leaders to live that is.
