Resident Evil Village’s Images Look Like Bloodborne

Resident Evil Village

Capcom was recently the subject of a massive hack. Those who hacked them stole images and early development builds of Resident Evil Village, the eighth entry in the Resident Evil franchise. Earlier this month, some images from that hack were published. Just like most other outlets, I won’t be covering the leaked images here. I don’t want to give people more of a reason to steal images to try to gain fame or anything else. Instead, I’m looking at the three new images that Capcom shared through various outlets. I can’t help looking at them and seeing Bloodborne, which is what I imagine a lot of other people are doing as well.

This image is really the one that hammers it all home. If you’ve ever played Bloodborne, this will look very familiar. It’s an enemy that has clearly been overtaken by the beast blood impurity that’s rampant throughout the area. They’re in an uncontrollable rage, and they simply have to be killed by hunters. There’s no saving them. They’ll murder their families if they aren’t put down.

I’m not saying that Capcom has stolen from FromSoftware in any way. Obviously, these are just similarities, and the core root of the changes in people across both games will be wildly different. I suspect that a nefarious company will be responsible in Resident Evil Village, probably through some sort of child experimentation as was the case in Resident Evil 7.

I think it’s interesting that there’s such a similarity here though. It makes me wonder if the changes in people in Resident Evil Village are part of some sort of blood impurity or virus that reverts them to human afterwards, or simply leaves them in this state forever. Games can reference other games, and this enemy’s appearance makes me wonder if we’re supposed to be thinking about Bloodborne as an inspiration here. It would help players understand that these are people, but they’ve been changed as the result of a wider greed that has nothing to do with them. they’re merely casualties.

I could be totally wrong though, and these people might love being that hairy. We’ll have to see in the final release.
