How Can You Support Assassin’s Creed Without Supporting Ubisoft?

Assassins Creed Valhalla

The news surrounding Ubisoft at the moment is despicable. The company is ignoring the A Better Ubisoft group, a group of staff that has banded together to try to improve the working conditions across the company. In addition, Ubisoft is now also looking to move into blockchain, play-to-earn games, and NFTs. All of these are incredibly bad for the environment, and not taking care of your employees is the worst thing an employer can do. It’s negligent, and it needs to stop. The problem is, if we boycott Ubisoft in general, the Assassin’s Creed franchise and so many others risk death. How can we support those franchises without supporting Ubisoft?

There are a couple of things I think that we can do as a community to help those working on the Assassin’s Creed series without giving too much to Ubisoft. For a start, if you only buy Assassin’s Creed games on sale, then don’t change a thing. Ubisoft makes less money that way, and I think it’ll help show the company that it needs to focus on bringing down prices earlier. If you only buy the games second-hand, then keep doing so, because Ubisoft makes no additional cash from your purchase.

If you buy in-game items with Helix Credits, then you need to stop. Anything you can buy with currency earned in-game is fine, but giving more money to Ubisoft on top of your initial purchase will only help drive home the idea that this is the best direction for the franchise.

I think that the best thing we can do as a community is share about the Assassin’s Creed franchise and talk about it together. If we ignore all of the other games that Ubisoft throws out, then we’re not giving our support to Ubisoft in other areas. What we’re doing is giving the creators of Assassin’s Creed the credit they deserve without actively acknowledging the company behind the games. I also think that if we can mention how terrible Ubisoft is as much as possible, it will eventually force a change. The company can’t be happy with this reputation, and it can’t be left for much longer without some serious outside action.
