Is Ghost of Tsushima on Xbox?

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure title developed by Sucker Punch Productions. It was first released on 17th July 2020 for the PS4. It was then later re-released for the PS5 in August 2021. In the game, you play as a samurai named Jin Sakai who is on a quest to stop the Mongol invasion of Tsushima island. Ghost Tsushima received much praise and critical acclaim from fans and critics alike at launch. As a result, many gamers have rightly been left wondering when, if ever, will Ghost of Tsushima appear on Xbox.

Is Ghost of Tsushima Available on Xbox?

At the moment, no. Ghost Tsushima is a PlayStation exclusive. As such, it is only available on the PS4 and PS5 and not on Xbox. In addition, no further ports of the game have currently been announced.

Why isn’t Ghost on Tsushima on Microsoft’s console?

There are multiple reasons why the game is not available on Xbox consoles. The main reason is that the developers of Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch Productions, have a long history of making games exclusively for PlayStation consoles. The company first was founded in 1997. Shortly after, it began working as a 2nd party developer under Sony. It firstly become known for the Sly Cooper series of games for the PS2. This was later followed by the Infamous games developed exclusively for the PS3. In 2011, the company was officially acquired by Sony Entertainment and became a subsidiary. It is now one of many PlayStation studios. It stands alongside other highly reputed developers such as Santa Monica Studios, Naughty Dog and Guerrilla Games.

Since Ghost of Tsushima is made by a company so closely affiliated with PlayStation, it is unlikely to make it’s way to Xbox anytime soon. From a business point of view, it would de-incentivise gamers to purchase a PlayStation if major exclusives such as Ghost of Tsushima made their way to rival platforms. The PlayStation brand relies to a large degree on the quality and quantity of it’s exclusive titles. Since Xbox is a direct competitor, it would not make sense for Sony give the greenlight for a port of such a successful exclusive onto the console. In the same vein, Microsoft is very unlikely to allow for a Starfield port on PlayStation to go ahead any time soon.

Could Ghost of Tsushima come to PC?

The closest thing to a release on Xbox would be a release on PC. There haven’t been any official announcements on this, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility of a PC release. Multiple first-party PlayStation titles have recently made their way to the PC. This includes Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered and the Uncharted: Lost Legacy Collection.

As for Xbox, Ghost of Tsushima is unlikely to be ported anytime in the near future. Those wanting to play it will have to obtain either a PS4 or PS5 if they want to experience Jin Sakai’s struggle against the Mongol Empire. A PC release is more likely, but for now, PlayStation is the only platform on which you can play this game.
