Is Elden Ring Cross-Platform?

Elden Ring

FromSoftware’s latest entry in the Souls-like genre has been sweeping the gaming community by storm. Elden Ring has taken the age-old formula of difficult and precise combat that we have come to know and love from the Dark Souls franchise and brought it to a massive open-world scale.

This new massive world can feel quite lonely without someone to explore it with, which is where the multiplayer aspect of Elden Ring comes into play. Previous Souls games have always offered players the option to summon other players into their world to assist them with clearing out the current area they are in.

Luckily, this system is still in place in Elden Ring so players can call on their friends or other random players to assist them in this vast world. However not all friend groups play games on the same system, some friends are on PC while others are on rival consoles. Which begs the question, does Elden Ring offer support for cross-platform play? Let’s go over if Elden Ring has cross-platform support.

Is Elden Ring Cross-Platform?

Sadly, Elden Ring does not offer cross-platform support and doesn’t seem to have any plans to add it for now. This means you can only summon players playing on the same console as you or summon other PC players.

However, this does not mean Elden Ring doesn’t have cross-generation support. Since Elden Ring came out on both PS4 and PS5 as well as Xbox One and Series X|S, you can play with players that are on an older or newer console generation than yourself. So PS4 and PS5 players can play together and Xbox One and Series X|S players can play together.

Elden Ring - Cross-Gen

To make the cross-generation play deal even better, Elden Ring offers the ability to upgrade to the next console generation for free if you bought it on a last-generation console. There is no reason to not pick the game up now if you play on upgrading later unless you plan on switching to another brand of console.

Your saved data will follow the upgrade as well, so you don’t need to worry about losing all of your progress farming up some of the best weapons in Elden Ring when you make the switch to a new console down the line.

Playing Elden Ring on the latest hardware available is something that you will want to consider doing since it will set you up for the best experience with the game and its gorgeous scenery in the open world. But it will also make sure that you are ready when Elden Ring’s DLC comes out as that could only come to the next generation of consoles.

Just make sure to talk with all of your friends about which platform to get the game on so you can all play together and experience the brutal boss fights as a group.
