Minecraft has managed to stay relevant ever since its release in 2011. The game has evolved, made better, and had its ups and downs, and players continue to explore the sandbox worlds of Minecraft. It has become common to ask if Minecraft has voice chat, since that functionality has improved since the early 2010s and has become a staple in similar games where you need constant connection with other players.
How to Set up Voice Chat in Minecraft
Minecraft, unfortunately, doesn’t have a built-in Voice Chat option, for now. This doesn’t mean it won’t change in the foreseeable future, as this option has been long overdue in such a popular game. However, there are a few options you can experiment with to add the feature in.
Simple Voice Chat Mod
This mod only adds proximity chat, which means that you will be able to talk to friends who are physically close to your character in the game world. It is a nice addition, but limited, and installing requires some technical know-how. Features include push to talk, voice activation, proximity voice chat, password protected chats and a slick GUI. You will typically have to open port 24454 UDP on your Minecraft server, as well as go through advanced setup, to install and configure this mod for optimal usage.
Third-Party Programs
Discord and TeamSpeak are popular and usable choices for voice chat among gamers. This will allow you to create a unique channel just for Minecraft within the program. In addition to voice chat, you will also be able to share screen and text with your friends.
Console Party Voice Chat
If you’re playing Minecraft on Xbox or Playstation, you can use the built-in party voice chat system of your console. This is a familiar and pretty straightforward option for console gamers. No need for any kind of installation or download.
Unfortunately, there is no default Minecraft voice chat, but there are a few workarounds that will enable you to talk to your friends within the Minecraft world.
