There are many mobs in Minecraft that can be quite elusive to find – none more so than the simple Slime. Most mobs both hostile, neutral or passive have set spawn or biome requirements, and while Slimes do follow this rule to an extent, they are nowhere near as common as most other mobs. Slimes also drop a crucial crafting resource for any redstone fans who desire to make more complicated builds. Let’s go over where you can find Slimes in both Minecraft 1.19 and 1.20.
Slime Chunk or Swamp Biome?
While you can find a slime by randomly adventuring around your world, you can save yourself a bit of time by knowing what biome a slime will spawn in. Swamp biomes will naturally spawn Slimes during nighttime alongside other hostile mobs (you can also find Frogs in swamps which you can add to any of your animal farms). This is the easiest way to find them if you just need to kill a Slime or two in order to make a lead or a couple of sticker pistons. But, you will want to find a Slime chunk if you want to regularly farm up Slimes for your builds.
A Slime chunk is quite literally a single chunk in your game world that is capable of spawning Slimes despite not being in a swamp. There is no real way to track these chunks down consistently; just keep your eyes peeled or listen closely to see if you hear a slime jumping around as you are out caving or exploring the wilds.
Once you manage to find the Slime, you will want to turn on chunk borders to mark the chunk. This can be done by pressing both F3 and G on your keyboard at the same on PC. This will place large white wireframe walls around each individual chunk. You can either wait to see another slime spawn to narrow down which chunk they come from or simply build an AFK farm on the surface and cover multiple chunks that could be the slime chunk in question.
If you are in a rush to find a Slime chunk, there are plenty of tools online that can point you right to a slime chunk in your world. Simply put your world seed into any of these tools and they will display a full map of all the slime chunks in your world. There will most likely be more than you think. Simply pick one of these chunks and set up your farm. If you need any more help with Minecraft, make sure to check out some of our other guides on the game.
