Mountaintop Studios have finally dropped the big-reveal for their new tactical FPS Spectre Divide.
Spectre Divide is described as 3v3 tactical first-person shooter which involves aim-down-sights, and has an in-game economy where fans will have to strategically spend their currency to buy weapons, armor and more every round.
The new FPS focuses on clever gameplay which involves a single player controlling two characters at once. Spectre Divide earlier launched for private playtesting in July, and features a mechanic called Duality, where each player will control two characters. Fans will however, practically be only able to control one character at once, and can switch back to the other character while any of them remains frozen in place while the other, moves.
Popular Twitch streamer and esports personality Shroud joined Mountaintop Studios as the Lead Gameplay Advisor last year. Shroud is also one of the investors for the game as Mountaintop reportedly raised $60 million in funding to build their 70 person remote team to develop the game.
Spectre Divide Set to Launch as a Free-To-Play FPS
Set in a fictional city called Breakwater, Spectre Divide will be free-to-play and the developers aim to generate revenue via weapon skins and other cosmetic focused in-game transactions. “We’re committed to the fact that Spectre Divide won’t be pay-to-win,” revealed Mountaintop Studios.
There are no plans for a console port or handheld port soon, as Steam Deck will leave the game vulnerable to hacks and exploits according to the developers. The game will publish on Steam and will have a battle pass and regular content drops through seasonal updates.
We don’t have a clear release date for the game, but the tactical shooter will be available to play in a closed beta test soon. Meanwhile, fans can sign up for Spectre Divide’s playtest on the game Steam page here.
