Riot’s popular esports 5v5 FPS Valorant has finally launched for consoles, and there are barely any differences between the port and its PC counterpart. After multiple leaks, rumors and fan speculation, the game’s console port was announced at the Summer Game Fest 2024.
Valorant was then launched into private and public beta tests, and finally made its way to a full fledged open launch.
Valorant to Remain Free-To-Play on PlayStation and Xbox Consoles
Valorant won’t require a Game Pass subscription or a PlayStation Plus subscription to be able to play online multiplayer. Both of the consoles require users to subscribe to their services in order to access multiplayer, but Valorant remains an exception. Riot Games have order that the console port of their PC F2P title remains the same. Like the PC Counterpart, Valorant’s console port will have it’s own monetization options via cosmetic transactions, skin packs, and more, but the game itself will be available to access for free on available consoles.
However, Game Pass subscribers will get some additional perks as all current and upcoming future agents will remain unlocked for them.
However, console players won’t be able to team up with their PC counterparts as crossplay is restricted. However, Xbox and PlayStation players will be able to play matches together.
“We’ve received so much valuable feedback from players during Limited Beta, and feel confident to deliver on our gameplay promise for console player,” said Arnar Gylfason, production director of Valorant. “Whether it’s hitting that perfect shot, executing a flawless team play, or wiping out the enemy team, we look forward to seeing console players experience the same gameplay thrill as VALORANT PC players.”
There will be no delay or content drop biases between both platforms, as Riot has assured fans that PC and console players will “receive simultaneous platform releases of all live patch balances, new agents, maps, premium content, and additional live service features.”
Valorant’s console port is available to play on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as of August 2, 2024.
