Warner Bros Discovery is reportedly developing a video game set in director Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman” universe.
Matt Reeves’ 2022 film ‘ The Batman’ recently re-released in theatres, to build hype around the new direct to streaming show, The Penguin, which is also set in the same universe.
It is however, unclear who will be the game’s main protagonist if not DC’s Caped Crusader. Fans are starving for a new Batman video game adaptation since the Arkham series. The Puck revealed parent company Warner Bros. Discovery and CEO David Zaslav’s plans for their existing IPs.
The article revealed that after multiple staff recommendations to sells the IPs, CEO David Zaslav thinks they’re too valuable to unload and gives the company a strategic advantage. However, fans shouldn’t be put off by the recent video games entries around the DC IP, including the recent Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
The news story also revealed that several WBD divisions which include the crew from the movie and video game developers are collaborating to develop the upcoming video game. “But Zaz still sees the games unit as strategic, especially as the various WBD divisions are beginning to collaborate more closely on properties like the upcoming Penguin HBO show and game, both seeded in the 2022 The Batman movie” revealed the blog post.
“Back in 2020, AT&T tried to sell the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment video games unit for a cool $4 billion. But months later it was deemed “too valuable to unload.” Then, when Zaslav took over, many advised him to offload games.” added the article.
It is unclear whether it would be a full-sized big-budget video game around DC’s darkest titular character or something else. It remains to be seen how a video-game set in Matt Reeves’ grimdark detective-esque universe will pan out, and we await more information about the same.
Matt Reeves’ The Penguin is scheduled to release on Max on September 19, with the Batman 2 arriving later in Summer 2026.
