There are plenty of upcoming shooters and FPS games in 2025 and beyond. The genres are some of the most popular within the games industry; therefore having lots of hype. As another year of gaming starts to come to a close, we look to the future. Players are always excited for the newest titles to dive into with friends and other players around the world.
We have curated a list of different upcoming shooters and FPS titles that we are looking forward to. From slaying zombies to besting other online opponents, there are some great picks. Below, players can find some of the top choices to look forward to in the future of FPS and shooters.
1. Killing Floor 3
Tripwire Interactive has a new notch in the belt with Killing Floor 3 releasing. The upcoming zombie FPS shooter has players continue to mow down waves of zombies. The game offers unique characters to a fleshed-out (no pun intended) class system. The series has already been established as a top-tier FPS. Killing Floor 3 looks to not only continue the trend but to make use of the current-gen console tech as well. The games provide some of the most fun in co-op in recent years and Tripwire is already aiming to make 2025 a blast for gaming.
- Release Date: 2025
2. Call of Duty 2025
Call of Duty gets a lot of flack over the years. Some titles like Modern Warfare 2019 and Black Ops 6 show that quality can be made in the series still. The games have such defining moments for players and the next entry will likely continue to do so. While we don’t know the details of the series, Sledgehammer Games likely is the next team to take a swing in developing.
- Release Date: October/November 2025
3. Delta Force
Delta Force is an upcoming FPS game that aims to bring a grounded shooter experience. Developed by Team Jade, the free-to-play shooter is going to feature an array of modes. From PvE campaign missions to distinct PvP warfare on a large scale. Fans of titles like Battlefield are in for a treat with its gameplay. After having a beta in 2024, the game has shown players that it is what is needed in the FPS shooter game market. Furthermore, it aims to be a breath of fresh air in a genre running low on solid options to play.
- Release Date: Q1 2025
4. Atomfall
Atomfall is not only an upcoming FPS game set in a radioactive Great Britain, but it features survival elements. Players see themselves trying to find out what went wrong in a quarantine zone, providing an atmosphere similar to both Fallout and Bioshock. Rebellion Developments looks to have this upcoming FPS game shine in the new year. Atomfall aims to provide an alternate look at historical events and surviving the harsh lands looks to be a blast when it launches.
- Release Date: Q1 2025
5. Mouse: P.I. for Hire
A pleasant surprise for upcoming FPS shooters is Mouse: P.I. for Hire. Players take on the role of a mouse P.I. as they battle through a corrupted city. The game has a stunning art style that reflects 1930s classic cartoons. Essentially it looks like an FPS version of Cuphead and it’s fantastic to see. Fumi Games looks to bring a whimsical and innovative shooter to the genre with this entry. Players wanting to fight crime with cartoon guns and feel cool doing it, need to keep an eye on this title.
- Release Date: 2025
6. New Battlefield Title
DICE is aiming to bring us a new Battlefield in the upcoming year. Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA has confirmed the series is going back to the modern-day setting. Furthermore, we can expect the game to go to the basics side of things like Battlefield 3 and 4. The news is welcome to me and many others, especially after the failure of Battlefield 2042. Even just with these indicators so far, this is good news that we can expect a solid Battlefield entry in 2025.
- Release Date: 2025
7. Borderlands 4
2025 sees the return of the iconic cel-shaded FPS looter shooter. While we don’t know the full story details, it is likely to follow four new vault hunters. Furthermore, players are going to be returning to the world of Pandora. Filled with innuendos and crude humor, Gearbox is aiming to bring its classic formula back. As a fan of the series, I am very keen on seeing the new heroes we get to take control of. Especially with the great roster choices we had in both Borderlands 2 and 3.
- Release Date: 2025
8. Splitgate 2
Players may remember the first Splitgate as the competitive FPS shooter based around using portals. The developer is back with a sequel that aims to add more to it from the jump. Players can now choose different factions to represent as they compete against other players. However, the foundation of using the portals to maneuver is at the game’s base. When the first Splitgate was released, it was a big change to how FPS shooters worked. Using the portals as the key movement made for more fast-paced matches. Furthermore, it created more out-of-the-box thinking for taking down foes, so seeing a second title get announced is great. Hopefully, the IP gets to pick up more steam and more players see what it offers.
- Release Date: TBD
9. Judas
Judas aims to bring back the glory days of survival horror FPS shooters, as it is directed by Ken Levine, creator of Bioshock. This newest title looks to match the same ambiance and atmosphere. Players must escape a starship that is heading towards catastrophe. Along the way, they will contend with various threats and make alliances in order to survive and find a way off the ship. From the gameplay we have seen, it looks like we may get a true spiritual successor to Bioshock and I couldn’t be more excited.
- Release Date: TBD
10. Doom: The Dark Ages
Ripping and tearing through demons as the Doom Slayer was already an amazing experience. However, id Software is dialing up the chaos by thrusting gamers into a medieval theme as the iconic protagonist. The game features things like guns that fire skulls as ammo to taking down larger-than-life demons in gruesome and awesome ways. Doom: The Dark Ages looks to take the best of the series(which is everything) and somehow make it even better. Doom Eternal runs amazing on current-generation platforms, so Dark Ages looks to do the same. If this latest entry is what we come to expect from its predecessors, we have an incredible FPS title to look forward to in the future.
- Release Date: 2025
2025 and beyond is offering up some fantastic choices for upcoming FPS shooters. The roster features amazing, diverse options. Not just in gameplay styles but aesthetics and environment as well. With there being as many picks as there are, it almost (almost) makes me wish some were not coming out till later on. But, I am looking forward to all of the different games to experience.
From AAA to indie developers, these are just some of the many games we can look forward to in the future. Are any of your favorite or most anticipated titles some of the ones mentioned above? As we approach the end of 2024, it seems that players are going to have their hands full.
