Will We Ever See a Star Wars Battlefront 3?

Star Wars Battlefront III

One of the most controversial releases in the past decade, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has developed something of a cult following in recent years. Launching back in 2017, the game endured incredible levels of criticism and fan frustration upon release, being one of the major contributors to the ‘loot crate’ scandals alongside an utterly ridiculous number of micro-transactions and apparent ‘pay to win’ cosmetics/characters, EA did not win over many new fans or keep existing ones happy.

However, EA has implemented many fixes across the past few years, removing some of the pay to win elements and limiting the effects and consequences of micro-transactions. What’s been left is a very solid game, and what Star Wars fans were originally looking for with the release of such a beloved title.

With the very underwhelming launch of the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection and Star Wars Outlaws recently, fans have been asking one question – why can’t we get a Star Wars Battlefront 3, instead of any more remakes or failed attempts?

Next-Gen Ready

There are yet to be any concrete rumours of EA, or any developers, working on a Star Wars Battlefront 3. But what we do know is the next gen consoles and PCs are more than ready to handle the scope and size of what could prove to be a very ambitious project. When Star Wars Battlefront 2 launched in 2017, it was confined to the PS4 and Xbox One, alongside PC, which undoubtedly limited its potential.

What this meant is that it’s graphics, gameplay and ambition could only go so far. Space battles, lightsabre duels and large-scale warzones on distant planets will be further enhanced, developed and realised thanks to next gen consoles and recent PC technological advances. The world of Star Wars could fit beautifully within this and deliver the various worlds in a way which Star Wars Outlaws largely failed to do.

New Stories to Tell

With the world of Star Wars constantly growing thanks to Disney’s series and upcoming movies, Star Wars Battlefront 3 would have huge potential to tap into these avenues to deliver fans new worlds, stories and characters to play in. The likes of the Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano and Jod Na Nawood from Skeleton Crew have all seen their stories grow and would fit into a Battlefront game beautifully. Whilst some have been added into Battlefront 2 at DLCs or unlockables, a new game would allow full stories and immersion into these relatively new characters.

Alongside this, a new title would be able to tap into all upcoming movie and TV releases in the Star Wars universe. New and exciting characters can be introduced into a whole new gameplay mechanic, allowing fans to immerse themselves into new worlds, new cities and new experiences.

A Wait for War… for Now

With no release or rumours really circulating at the moment, Star Wars Battlefront 3 may just be a dream for now. However, with recent Star Wars games largely failing to deliver on expectation, the hunger and appetite for a truly special new game in such a beloved world still exists. If EA can pull the resources together, learn from previous mistakes and develop a game with the potential it certainly has, Star Wars Battlefront 3 could be the next revelation in the gaming world.
