Is 2025 Going to be the Year for Marvel Games?

Marvel Games

With a chequered past in video games, Marvel Games is preparing for a potentially huge year with several new releases. Recent releases based on the wonderful MCU have been very hit and miss. For every Spider-Man 1 and 2 – considered as some of the greatest PlayStation releases in recent years – there has been a Marvel Avengers – a live server release that was shut down sooner than you could say ‘assemble’.

However, 2021’s Guardians of the Galaxy gave fans a taste of what superhero games can really be when heavily influenced by the MCU and was something of a sleeper hit that has since developed a strong cult following. In the few years since then, there have been several releases in the pipeline but 2025 seems to be year that we’ll finally be granted some of them.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra

With no set release date just yet, this action-adventure epic from Skydance New Media has all the hallmarks to be a huge success. Set in occupied Paris during World War 2, Captain America teams up with Azurri (the 1940s’ Black Panther) to try to stop the creation and rise of Hydra.

Set during one of the most intriguing, despairing and desperate times in recent memory, and combining two of Marvel’s most beloved, powerful and charismatic characters, fans can expect a historical epic with next level graphics – immersing players deep into WW2.

Marvel’s Iron Man

It’s incredibly surprising that the father of the MCU, Iron Man, has not had a new major game since 2009’s Iron Man 2, which has largely fallen into memory. 2025 looks set to change that, with Motive Studios at the helm, Marvel are promising fans a single player, third person, action-adventure game starring Tony Stark.

The story promised is an original so there are no concerns that it will simply mirror previous films or exhaust similar storylines. Instead, the characteristics, charm and conflict that make Iron Man so unique will be on display. With rumours circulating that it could be an open world game, the opportunity of flying around in one of Stark’s famous suits is a truly mouthwatering prospect. There is no set release date yet, but all ears will be peeled for news in the next few months.

Marvel’s Wolverine

An 18/Rated R PS5 exclusive based around Logan with next gen graphics, extreme violence and a brand-new story? This seems destined to be a classic. The Spider-Man games have shown what PS5 exclusives can deliver, and Wolverine has been in development for a number of years and is one of the most anticipated releases in years. Insomniac Games, who developed Spider-Man: Mid les Morales, are behind it and it will be a standalone story in the universe of Spider-Man that the Sony/Marvel games have created so far.

Other details, including a release date, are limited for now but we do expect it to be a very gritty, bloody and visceral game – similar to God of War – and a darker and more graphic story than its Spider-Man counterparts. A classic on the horizon, but one we need to wait for.

Honourable Mentions

Whilst the above three games seem to be the major releases for Marvel in 2025 or early 2026, they are not the only games in progress. Sony’s Spider-Man 3 is still in the works, although unlikely to be ready for a number of years yet. Blade and Black Panther are also set to get original standalone games, but a release date and more information is very limited at this stage. A Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is also being rumoured, following on from the success of its predecessor.

Following on from a quiet few years in the video game industry, Marvel looks set to make 2025 year a huge year with some potentially groundbreaking releases and firsts for fans.
