Trails beyond the Horizon Coming Fall 2025, The World Finally Catches Up with Japan

A trailer was released earlier today announcing the release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon in global markets this fall. Trails beyond the Horizon released in Japan last September.

Despite getting its own subtitle, Trails beyond the Horizon is a direct sequel to Trails through Daybreak. The new title continues the narrative from the Calvard arc, following Van Arkride and his merry band of rogues as they explore the ever-transforming political landscape of the Republic of Calvard.

A fall window would put the global launch roughly a year after the original Japanese release. While simultaneous global releases are common now, The Legend of Heroes series is notorious for long delays between its Japanese and English launches. For more recent installments, the average wait time has been roughly two years, but older titles took anywhere from six years to upwards of a decade before fans could play them in English.

Rumors have been circulating about an earlier-than-expected western release for Trails beyond the Horizon since it was announced last December that a different publisher would be handling the development and release of the upcoming Trails in the Sky remake.

Fans are understandably overjoyed with the news, most notably because this will be the first time English-speaking Trails fans won’t be at least one title behind Japan since Trails of Cold Steel II in 2016. Unlike most JRPG series, which have self-contained narratives that occasionally tie into other titles, the Trails series is a long, serialized epic with a deep, interconnected narrative. With both Tails Beyond the Horizon and the remake of the original Trails game, Trails in the Sky, both set to drop this fall, there’s never been a better time for JRPG fans to get into this cult-favorite series.
