Raiding Solo: Arc Raiders Alone is a Different Experience

Going through Arc Raiders solo is something that I never thought I would experience. I played through both the Technical Test and Server Slam with others. But with my party members not getting the game, I have been diving in by myself. And let me tell you, it is a completely different type of game. The game is all about a PvPvE experience, worrying about combating players and the AI enemies, the ARC. While also scavenging and extracting materials. But by opting not to fill out a squad of players, the game pairs you with other solo Raiders. It’s led to a whole other type of Arc Raiders lifestyle, one that is rather more peaceful than I previously thought.

Seeing Different Raiders in Solo Mode, There is an Understanding

When I dive into solo queue for Arc Raiders, there is a partial worry that I will be downed by opponents. It’s nothing to be disappointed about because it’s a gameplay mechanic and to be expected. But there have been more times so far where this hasn’t happened yet. Instead, when I use the “Don’t Shoot” emote, I’m met with a mirrored reply. It’s shocking every time, but it shows that many other players are the same way. They are just trying to go about their business in the game.

Additionally, if you are playing and others are using mics, you can hear them in the proximity chat. And almost every time so far, you can hear players saying they are peaceful – and we both move on. It’s something unique to see in an extraction shooter, as aggression is all the rage. It seems to be a common thing when playing in solos that most people just enjoy the game and only use their weapons for two reasons. To take down the different ARC or to defend against rogue Raiders. Seeing Arc Raiders do this with games like The Division 2 and Escape From Tarkov out there is a major standout.

A Raider of My Talents? It’s A Peaceful Life…

While roaming through the different regions in Arc Raiders, the immersion of being by yourself is unique. In the distance, I hear gunfire and the different ARCS. Another direction is the speakerphone of an elevator as a player heads back to Speranza. It’s a quiet and lonely experience, but one that absolutely complements the game. More so, with it being an apocalyptic-style setting, it’s the perfect combination. I get to go around and scavenge for materials to complete quests. With just the background noise and the wildlife keeping my character company for most of the time.

While Embark didn’t directly ask or intend for players to play like this, it’s perfect for the game. It brings in another community of players who enjoy the busy work of quests at their own leisure. Sure, I love competitive playing as much as others. But these breaks by diving into the peaceful side of Arc Raiders are a treat that I look forward to when I boot up the game. Plus, with the sci-fi aesthetic and music, I feel right at home playing solo in this genre.

No Punishment For Enjoying Arc Raiders Solo

Going through the game solo, compared to playing with others, does not punish you. You have to worry about going down and not having a teammate to revive you. But that’s about it. So far, I have been able to get through various quests without needing teammates to help me out. Many of the quests require you to grab specific items or defeat ARC enemies. Specifics that can be done alone with what I have been able to do. Additionally, you don’t have to worry about teammates taking your items if you are on the same quests.

While there are bigger and harder ARC robots to fight in the game, doing it in solo style is common. I found myself numerous times teaming up with other players to take it down. It brings a sense of unity and understanding among players who are all exploring on their own. Yet in games like Sea of Thieves, solo players will tend to want to take you and your ship without question. So if you are looking to enjoy the game by yourself, just be sure to ask for help in taking down stronger AI. It could very well lead to a solo group getting some unique resources because of it. Therefore, making it rewarding rather than punishing when it comes to being in Arc Raiders as a solo.

Overall, going through Arc Raiders solo has been an incredible time. Getting to loot at my own pace, greeting random players, and going on our way, it’s a fun time. Things might change over time, but with how many are diving in, there are a lot of those in the solo community. If you are looking to see what the solo side is like, be prepared for the odd player here and there being a rogue. But otherwise, you get to see a different side of the game that Embark needs to continue embracing in the future.
