Dead Island 3 Officially in Development, Targeting 2028 Release

Fans of campy co-op zombie smasher series Dead Island will be happy to learn that work on the third game is under way. Bluesky user Timur222 shared a screenshot of a strategic report by Dambuster Studios Limited, the studio behind Dead Island 2, that states that Dead Island 3 is now the developer’s primary focus. The report also mentions a predicted release window of Q1/2 2028.

Dambuster first teased a new game in a Steam post earlier this year: “Dambuster Studios are already carving out what comes next.” The contents of this report confirm that the next Dead Island is what they were alluding to.

Dead Island 2 released in 2023 after more than a decade of issues, including changing developers twice during that period. The game was a commercial success despite the turmoil, though, and had reportedly sold more than 4 million units by early 2025.
