When you think of Starfield, you think of space flight. It makes perfect sense, as you are supposed to explore various space systems. Along the way, though, you may need to dock at an outpost or station. Maybe to see what’s there or get items, etc. But, upon doing it for the first time, it may seem like a mystery about how to dock. It may leave you flying by a valuable area or stuck floating in space. Something that may not seem ideal unless you are just looking to cruise the stars. However, we are here to make sure you know how to dock your ship where it’s possible in Starfield.
How to Dock in Starfield
Upon arriving within 500 meters of a ship or space station, target it. Once you do, a prompt will appear; hold it down to begin docking at your destination. To target where you dock: press “E” on PC/”A” on Xbox/”X” on PS5. Furthermore, to begin docking: hold “R” on PC/”X” on Xbox/”Square” on PS5. The process is simple, and once you start prepping to dock, it’s straightforward from there.
However, without doing this process, you won’t be able to actually dock. The action initially causes your ship to start getting ready to do it. Therefore, you will have to repeat this process every time you want to dock at a place in the game. But it doesn’t take long to do. With knowing how to do it, you’ll be able to dock your ship at these places with ease.
What Do The Docking Options Mean in Starfield?
Upon docking, you have three options: Board, Undock, and Get Up. Each one provides you with different actions for your player character to do after the process. The simple wording, though, can make things unclear. This is what to expect from the choices you make for it:
- Board: Players can explore the station or outpost to which they are docked. While their ship remains attached to the destination.
- Undock: Once you return to your ship, or if you wish to leave right away, you can. Selecting Undock immediately detaches your ship and allows you to return to space flight.
- Get Up: You can explore your own starship while docked at your destination. For example, if you need to grab anything before boarding.
There are plenty of places to explore in the universe of Starfield. And with that, plenty of different places that you can dock. Whether it’s to get sidequests or complete other tasks. Any of the ships you own in the game can dock. Now that you know how to dock in different stations and outposts, it will become second nature in no time.
