Mystery Activision Game May Not Be What Fans Expect

Elsewhere Entertainment is a AAA studio owned by Activision, but it’s one that most people have probably never heard of. That, of course, is because it hasn’t released any games yet. This studio is only a few years old and, up until recently, the game it’s been working on has been a complete mystery. Recently, however, some job listings have suggested that the Warsaw-based studio’s debut project may not be what some fans are expecting.

On LinkedIn, Activision posted a job listing for Elsewhere Entertainment that says that it’s looking for a multiplayer design director. The person in this position will apparently join the development of a new IP, one that will feature PvE experiences, along with seasonal content and RPG systems.

A separate job listing for level designers, meanwhile, suggests that the game that Elsewhere Entertainment’s working on is open-world. The listing specifically states that Activision is looking for designers with “an interest in open world RPGs.”

Elsewhere Entertainment is Making an Open-World PvE RPG

Based off all of the above information, it appears that Elsewhere Entertainment’s first-ever project will be an open-world RPG with PvE multiplayer modes. Since it’s a new IP, it will evidently not be related to the Call of Duty franchise or any other existing properties. This means that Elsewhere Entertainment’s project may be positioned as a new live service pillar for Activision-Blizzard, assuming it ever sees the light of day.

Even if Elsewhere Entertainment’s game is live service, though, most of the available details indicate that it will be story-focused. Back when Activision had announced the opening of this studio, it revealed that Elsewhere Entertainment was exclusively focused on creating a “narrative-based and genre-defining” franchise.

While this may seem like generic PR speak, it seems like Activision has recruited the talent it needs to back up its claims. Elsewhere Entertainment houses multiple former CD Projekt Red developers, who were involved with franchises like The Witcher and Cyberpunk. The studio also has “storytelling experts” who have previously worked on The Last of Us, Uncharted, Far Cry, The Division, Destiny, and more.

Elsewhere Entertainment is, of course, a subsidiary of Xbox, since Microsoft now owns Activision-Blizzard. However, with how wishy-washy Microsoft has been on exclusivity, it’s hard to say if Elsewhere Entertainment’s game will be exclusive to Xbox consoles. Whether it’s only on Xbox or not, though, chances are it won’t be revealed anytime soon. Elsewhere Entertainment hasn’t been around for long, so its debut title is probably being developed with next-gen consoles in mind.
