Sony has today unveiled a cinematic story trailer for its upcoming remastered Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on PS4.
While the creators of video game remasters are often accused of cutting corners, the stunning two-minute video clip should leave prospective buyers feeling reassured that a lot of love has gone into painstakingly recreating the epic adventures of Drake and company on current generation hardware.
Offering enhanced graphics at 1080p and 60 frames per second, including improved textures, lighting and rendering, as well as a soundtrack consisting of remastered, dynamic audio, the epic action-adventure trilogy is looking and sounding better than it ever has before.
In an official press release, Naughty Dog community strategist Eric Monacelli said:
The exchange seen here between Sully and Drake is a defining moment in the Uncharted story. Sir Francis Drake’s motto “Greatness from small beginnings” has a special place in Nathan Drake’s backstory and frames his epic journeys. He achieved greatness from humble beginnings with a lot of help along the way. Sully became a father-figure and mentor of sorts for Nate and that relationship served as a rock in the often wild, always adventurous saga that you’ll play in Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
Monacelli also went on to reveal a number of all-new game modes that will be featured in the collection, including Explorer Mode, Speed Run Mode and Brutal Difficulty Mode. Explorer Mode will primarily be targeted at beginners, allowing them to play through the game at their own pace with a greatly reduced combat difficulty level. At the other end of the spectrum, Brutal Difficulty Mode will be unlocked by defeating the game’s already-punishing Crushing option. Speed Run Mode, meanwhile, adds a competitive time-attack element to proceedings.
The compilation will also see the return of the popular Photo Mode, similar to the one that made it into The Last of Us: Remastered, with over 65 character skins also being available for selection in all three games. That’s not all, though, as purchasers will also receive exclusive access to the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End multiplayer beta.
With Naughty Dog currently being hard at work on Uncharted 4, production duties for the collection have been assigned to Blue Point Games, a Texas-based developer who has previously ported over a number of HD remasters to the PS3, including the likes Metal Gear Solid, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus, and God of War.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is scheduled to release on October 7 in Europe and October 9 in North America. It is available to pre-order at Amazon and other retail outlets.
