Three-time and reigning F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, it has today been confirmed.
The British racing driver will appear in the latest entry in Activision’s flagship first-person shooter series as an engineer onboard one of the United Nations Space Alliance’s (UNSA) last remaining warships, the Retribution.
In a press release, the 31-year-old Hamilton said: “I’ve been a Call of Duty fan for long time, so it’s an absolute honour to be part of this game and the franchise.”
“The experience of being put into the game – from the facial scanning process to working with the team on the performance capture stage and just being able to meet the developers at the studio to get a glimpse at all the hard work that goes into the game – this has been an incredible experience.”
Developer Infinity Ward’s narrative director, Taylor Kurosaki, said: “Everyone at Infinity Ward was excited to work with Lewis since we’re all huge fans of his.”
“He came to Call of Duty with the same approach he takes to the racetrack, determined to nail his performance – which he absolutely did!”
Lewis Hamilton faces a tough challenge to retain his Formula One crown in 2016, with Mercedes teammate and long-time rival Nico Rosberg currently leading the championship by 33 points, with only four races remaining.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, meanwhile, faces its own competition from the likes of Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 for FPS supremacy this year. It releases on November 4 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
