After days of speculation and a succession of cryptic teasers, Rockstar Games has today unveiled the first official trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2.

The game is a direct sequel to the critically acclaimed 2010 original, and the third entry in the Red Dead franchise overall.

RDR2’s “vast and atmospheric world”, which was momentarily teased in the short video, will also provide the foundation for an extensive online component, according to Rockstar. It will hope to follow on from the success of the multiplayer mode of the publisher’s last major release, Grand Theft Auto V.

In an earlier press release, Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, said: “With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world. We hope to deliver players an epic experience that builds upon everything we’ve learned making games.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated to release for PS4 and Xbox One in Fall 2017. The possibility of a PC version has yet to be discussed.
