The Witness Receives PS4 Pro Support with 1.03 Title Update; Patch Size Revealed

The Witness

The latest update for Thekla’s critically acclaimed 3D puzzler The Witness is now live on the PS4, bringing PS4 Pro support to the title.

The patch, which is numbered version 1.03, was released earlier this evening, and clocks in at a fairly reasonable 3.301 GB.

According to game director Jonathan Blow, The Witness will render at 1080p, 60fps, 4x MSAA (multisample anti-aliasing) when output from the PS4 Pro to a 1080p display.

Those with a 4K TV, meanwhile, receive a choice of two modes to select from: either a 1440p resolution, with 2x MSAA rendering of the game world – upscaled to 4K – with text and UI rendered at 4K, running at 60 frames per second; or 4K 2x MSAA rendering for everything, and running at 30fps.

Along with PS4 Pro enhancements, the update also brings HDR support to both Sony’s base and upgraded console.

The Witness originally launched on the PS4 and PC back in January; an Xbox One version followed in September. Inspired by seminal adventure-mystery game Myst, The Witness requires players to explore an open world island filled with a manner of natural and man-made structures, solving puzzles as they progress.
