On November 13, 2023, Sony disabled its integration with X, joining Microsoft and Nintendo in removing the ability to directly share screenshots and clips to the waning social media platform. Sony has kept mum about the reasoning behind the decision, though most believe that X’s new API access policy is the culprit. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from manually uploading your content and clips to X; it just takes a few more steps now. Here are some of the ways to share PS4 and PS5 screenshots and recordings to X.
Share PS4 and PS5 Screenshots to X with the Official PlayStation App

The official PlayStation App lets you drop clips and images from your PS4 or PS5 straight to your phone. Then it’s just a matter of grabbing the content from your gallery and posting it to your X account. Simple and easy.
Linking Your Console to the PlayStation App
Before you can start sharing content between the app and your console, you have to make sure the two devices are linked.
- Make sure your phone and the console are connected to the same network
- Open the Playstation App on your phone
- Sign into your PlayStation Network account
- Open up the Settings and select Link Console to App
- Select your console and follow the instructions to complete the linking process
Sending Clips and Images From Your Console to the PS App
Now that your devices are linked, sending content is as easy as picking the files you want to share.
- Press the PS button on your controller
- Navigate to the Media Gallery
- Pick the clips and screenshots that you want to send to your phone
- Select Upload to PlayStation App
Once uploaded to your phone, you’ll be able to access the content from your phone’s gallery, just like any other downloaded image.
Optional: Enabling Auto-Upload
You can also set your console to automatically upload clips and screenshots to your PlayStation App.
- On your console, go to Settings and select Captures and Broadcasts
- Select Captures
- Enable Auto-Upload
- On your phone, navigate to Library then Captures in the PlayStation app
This setting only works for clips up to three minutes in duration and screenshots that you take manually. Anything recorded automatically, like trophy videos, won’t be automatically sent to your phone.
Transfer Clips and Videos to Your PC with a USB Stick
This is a good method for content creators who want to tweak and edit their images or videos in Photoshop or Premiere Pro before uploading them to the internet.
- Plug your USB drive into your console
- Pick the content you want to share from your Media Gallery
- Select the Copy to USB option
Once that’s done, all you have to do is plug the USB stick into your PC or laptop and grab the files, then share them to X with your web browser.
Share to YouTube Then Share the Uploaded Clip to X
This one is a bit of roundabout method to share PS5 screenshots to X, but some users prefer it, so we’re sharing it here.
Link Your YouTube Account
- On your console and go to the Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services
- Select YouTube from the list of services
- Type in your YouTube credentials to link the account to your console
Upload Clips to Your YouTube Account
Now that your YouTube account is linked, you can start uploading clips to your channel.
- On your console, go to the Media Gallery
- Pick a clip that you want to upload and press the Options button
- Select Share and pick YouTube from the list of social apps
Share Your Clips to X

Once your clips are on YouTube, all you have to do is open them up in a browser and click the Share button.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the PlayStation App compress images and videos?
Yes, the PSAPP compresses images and videos. The effect is negligible for images but much more aggressive for video clips and will likely produce compression artifacts. If video and image quality is important to you, then you’ll want to go with the USB stick method.
Why did Sony remove X/Twitter integration from its consoles?
Sony has made no official statement for why it stopped supporting direct sharing to X, but many believe the decision was made in response to the increase in pricing for access to the X/Twitter API. The new policy introduced a tiered pricing structure, with the most expensive tier, Enterprise, starting at $42,000 per month.
Can I share from PS4/PS5 to Google Drive/Dropbox?
No, neither the PlayStation 4 nor the PlayStation 5 allow for direct uploads to cloud storage services. Despite being one of the most requested features, it doesn’t look like the company has any plans to add cloud storage integration.
