PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett and are the upcoming next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Inti Creates president Takuya Aizu talked about these upcoming consoles and how they should learn from the Nintendo Switch.
The major selling point of the Nintendo Switch is that you can play games on it anywhere you go and when you come home you can plug it into the dock and play games on the big screen. Aizu mentioned that it will be difficult for upcoming consoles to compete because exclusive games are dying.
Games release on multiple platforms now and if that does not happen at first then games are ported to other platforms later on. Takuya Aizu mentioned that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett need to have exclusive games at launch in order to please the fans. Here is what he had to say regarding the matter:
So when these companies put out new consoles I think one of the most important things for them is going to be how many exclusives they can have at their launch, because if they don’t have those then the chance that they’re going to have a failed launch is going to be pretty high I think.
The Nintendo Switch Lite was recently announced and it will be coming out in the upcoming months. Nintendo will have 2 models of the Nintendo Switch on the market by the time the next generation of consoles comes out. We have also heard about the Nintendo Switch Pro that could release next year.
Uniqueness is very important and if PS5 and Xbox Scarlett want to sell, they will need to provide a unique experience like the Nintendo Switch. But simply copying Nintendo is not going to work either. Sony and Microsoft need to come up with something new.
Platforms like Google Stadia and Project xCloud are going to make things even harder for the upcoming console generation.
Let us know what you think about the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett and what you think Sony and Microsoft should do to offer a unique experience.
