Ubisoft Announce Assassin’s Creed Gold, A New Audiobook

Yesterday Ubisoft announced that a brand new Assassin’s Creed story is coming in 2020, and it’s an audiobook. Assassin’s Creed Gold will be the first Audible Original audiobook in the Assassin’s Creed universe, as well as the first audiobook not to be based on one of the Assassin’s Creed game releases. The announcement was made by Ubisoft on Twitter, in which they confirmed that the audiobook would be coming to listeners on the 27th of February 2020.

Currently the only listing I can find for the new audiobook is on Amazon US, though I’m sure once the product launches on Audible it’ll be available across all english-speaking regions. Thanks to this listing we do have a bit of information about the time period and story for this new entry to the series, which I’m extremely excited about.

Assassin’s Creed Gold follows Aliyah Kahn, a hustler and card shark who hasn’t had the easiest life. Surviving on her smarts alone, Aliyah is doing okay until she loses big time to Gavin Banks, a mysterious older man. To repay her debt she must become an Assassin, and Banks teaches her about the war between the Assassins and the Templars over the course of her training. A huge part of the pair’s relationship becomes Aliyah’s assistance in helping decode a message inscribed on an illegal form of currency in 1969, during the Great Recoinage.

The audiobook tells the tale of an imminent economic collapse, featuring characters such as Isaac Newton, Warden of the royal Mint, William Chaloner, a counterfeiter and con artist, Omar Khaled, a blind Assassin, and Rose Galloway, an Assassin trainer. Apparently the book will draw parallels between Britain’s current economic uncertainty for the future, and that same uncertainty in the 17th century.

Performances in Assassin’s Creed Gold include actors such as Riz Ahmed (The Night Of, Rogue One, Four Lions), Anthony Head (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Merlin, Little Britain), Danny Wallace (Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed III) and Tamara Lawrance (Corvidae, On Chesil Beach).

I can’t wait to have a brand new original story from the Assassin’s Creed universe to listen to. Audiobooks are a real passion of mine, but there are very few of them that combine the worlds of films or games with the brilliance of a fantastic audio performance. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any news about Assassin’s Creed gold as it develops, and maybe even review it when it comes out.
