Remember Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and its sequel? They were spin-offs from the main Baldur’s Gate series that looked to capitalise on the success of Diablo and other hack’n’slash adventures but was set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. Well it’s getting a sequel which is coming to consoles and PC in 2020.
The earlier games were only console titles while the main entries were PC only, so it’s nice to see a title show every format some love this time around. This particular game although a sequel to Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 is actually dropping the title Baldur’s Gate from it’s title. Perhaps our 3 was also misleading. The game is simply titled ‘Dark Alliance’ and will serve as a soft-reboot. Check out the details here:
The main reason the title is dropping the long running franchise name is actually much simpler, the game isn’t set in or near Baldur’s Gate. Instead the game will be set in the region of Iceland Dale, although like each game that’s come before it, the game will be under the D&D umbrella.
The game so far looks like the classic high-fantasy hack’n’slash gameplay we’d expect, but the style seems more akin to Shadow of Mordor than Diablo this time around.
The game is set to come out Fall 2020.
