Animal Crossing: New Horizons is coming up on being one year old. This is a huge milestone for the game, one that will see players look back at the past year that’s been so good to the game. Sure, that year was probably helped by the pandemic, but the game is so good that it’s almost certainly stood its own against all the competition that’s risen against it. For that reason, I think that there should be an anniversary event for the game. Something to commemorate the fact that it’s been so popular for so long, and shows no signs of slowing down either. We’re getting an event for this month, so why not the next two months as well?
Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t just a great Animal Crossing game, it’s been the game that’s helped many of us through the past year. It’s been a way to spend hours of time without dwelling on the world outside and what we might be missing by sticking to the rules. In the UK, I’ve felt a little crazy sometimes just wasting my weekends away at home while some people are still partying, but ultimately it’s for the best. I wouldn’t have been able to cope half as well without this game.
I’m not saying that Nintendo needs to do a huge update that looks back at 2020 specifically, but there should definitely be an anniversary event. For both newcomers and the players who have been around since day one, this game has been something to hold onto. My island isn’t anywhere near as good as some of those that I’ve seen, but it’s not about progress. The game has been used as a platform for many to get their voices out, including talk show hosts who had no other options.
I think that the world would genuinely be a worse place without this game. It’s one of those rare titles that only brings out the best in people. Let see that as a trend that will continue throughout 2021 by kicking April off with a big one year anniversary event for the game.
