Should Far Cry 6 Have Even More RPG Elements?

Far Cry 6 was delayed into oblivion last year. Ubisoft hasn’t said a word about it since and considering that it was meant to release in 2020, it’s highly suspicious. I think I understand why it’s been so badly delayed, and it’s all to do with RPG elements. There’s been a trend in Ubisoft games lately that see them built upon with more and more RPG elements. Looking at each of their franchises, you can sort of track this and see where the elements have been put in more or less. On a wider scale, this works, but on some games, such as Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, it definitely doesn’t. That’s why immersive mode was added to that game.

Far Cry New Dawn had more RPG elements than other Far Cry games. Areas of the map had level requirements, and if you used a weapon that was too low a level in those areas, you’d be destroyed by the enemies. This pushed out the game’s length and forced you to play through certain areas first. It’s one way that a game can really lengthen itself by making you grind for gear, but not many people enjoy this.

An early demo for Far Cry 6 showed a similar thing. There were numbers above the heads of enemies as they were shot, and gear had levels. After the disaster with this situation in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, in particular, I think Ubisoft went back to the drawing board. I don’t see them scrapping this version of the game entirely, in fact, I think they’re doing much more.

Each Far Cry game has pushed the series to new heights, and in Far Cry 6, I think they’ll be adding two game modes. One will be the immersive mode that we’re all used to in the game. you upgrade your character with perks, but all areas are open and scaled to the player’s level. The other mode will be the RPG-like mode with leveled areas and gear. I think it’ll be a nice change of pace for fans of the series, and offer something different for hardcore players who have mastered every single entry.
