The No Man’s Sky Prisms Update Totally Revamps The Visuals

No Man's Sky

Last week Hello Games surprised all No Man’s Sky players with the Prisms Update. The latest update to the game completely revamped visuals, with new systems implemented and a better visual focus put on everything. Playing it now after seeing it in its old light for so long feels like you’re playing something completely new. It’s as if the developers remastered the game and put a new filter over everything to make it more beautiful in general. I’ve never played a game that changes like this after something as simple as a free update, but I’m so glad that I do because it’s the best experience out there.

Obviously, the best thing about this update is actually the rideable flying companions. These guys have always existed, but it’s only now that you can tame and mount a creature that will then fly through the sky. This opens up so many more avenues for exploration and could make meeting a few more milestones a little easier. For example, if you need to fall continuously for a good number of units, you can now fly as high as possible, jump and use your jetpack to do the rest. It’s that easy.

On top of all the visual stuff, I think that it’s nice to have a better use for storms in this game. They now produce certain rewards that you can sell for a tonne of cash. That’s always useful if you’re an explorer just looking to make your way in the galaxy. There shouldn’t be a restriction that’s as harsh as it has always been with that type of weather. It’s always better to feel like there’s a purpose to everything. I’ve not ventured out myself yet, but as soon as I see a stormy world I’ll be there in a flash.

I really wanted this to be a new Expedition in No Man’s Sky. The thing is, I don’t think we’ll be getting one until the end of the month. Looking at the previous pattern of releases, this makes sense. However, I’m more than happy to be proven wrong. Hopefully we’re all given advance notice of Expedition #3 though.
