I’ve been playing a decent amount of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and I can honestly say that it’s one of the best PS5 exclusives out there. Even among the games that have been upgraded for PS5, it stands apart. This is a title that takes everything from the Ratchet and Clank franchise and makes it this beast of a game that you can sink your teeth into and really lose yourself in. There’s a great story, a good number of collectibles, and a contextual new game + mode that adds dozens of hours to your play time if you’re willing to let it.
Ratchet and Clank are as old as the PS2. They’ve been around for years and years, but they still stand up today against the likes of GTA 5 and Rainbow Six Siege. The latest game is definitely more appealing to kids, that’s just the nature of these characters. However, there’s also a fantastic level of depth and humour that makes the game just fine for a fully grown adult to enjoy. You’ll have references to movies and other things that only you would get, but it’s also totally safe for young people to play. The depth in the gameplay means that they can play it forever too.
I’m pretty shocked by how good this game is to be honest. I’ve always loved Ratchet and Clank, but I didn’t think that this game could live up to my standards anymore. Insomniac Games has blown my expectations out of the water though. Not only is this the best-looking game on PS5 as of right now, it’s one of the most well-polished as well. You’ll find very little jank, and any that you do seems like it’s deliberate in a weird way.
If you’ve enjoyed Ratchet and Clank in the past, then you need to play this latest game. It’s a fun romp back into the universe that you’re familiar with and packs in all sorts of nostalgia to get your brain going. There’s no other better title for parents to play with children on the PS5 either, it’s the perfect blend of complex platforming and pure dumb fun.
