You may have seen the news last week that Dying Light 2 Stay Human has been delayed from its original release date of December 7, 2021 to February 4, 2022. I looked at this and couldn’t help thinking that Techland has delayed the game because Halo Infinite was due to release on December 8. If you could put any franchise near your release that you didn’t want to be there, Halo would be at the top of the list alongside Call of Duty. There’s a reason no one else launches games around the same time as those titles, the competition is too fierce.

Halo Infinite was announced as launching in December way after Dying Light 2 Stay Human. Microsoft knows that the game will sell well whenever it launches, but it wants to get it out in 2021 because it promised it would. Unfortunately for Techland, this means that almost every PC and Xbox player who would be playing Dying Light 2 Stay Human would shift over to Halo Infinite a day later. There’s just no competing with a new Halo title this long after the last new one in the franchise.
It’s a real shame for Techland. The company clearly has something to show, because press and content creators are getting an early preview look at the game next month. Of course, it can’t come out and say that it’s shifting the release date because of Halo Infinite, so it’s gone with the same reason it’s used a few times now, getting the game to the point in development where the team is happy. I accept that there may be some of this, but I can’t believe that no one in the studio wasn’t completely destroyed when they heard the release date for Halo Infinite.
This is a good opportunity for Dying Light 2 Stay Human though. The first game launched early in the year when nothing else was around. It did extremely well because of that, and I reckon the sequel will do just as well by following the same formula. Hopefully, there are no more delays for this game, and we get it in early February as has now been planned. If we don’t, I’m not sure it’ll ever actually come out.
