If you are wondering what the maximum amount of hearts you can get in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is, then you must be wondering how to acquire all those hearts, correct? Well, you’re in luck because I will answer both questions in this Tears of the Kingdom guide and cover what you need to know.
How many hearts can you actually get?
This is a trick question, because when you first boot up the game, you play as Link, exploring the tunnels beneath Hyrule Castle with 40 heart containers and a complete stamina wheel at your disposal. Sadly, though, your power is shortlived because, in practice, there are only 38 hearts in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and the two you had before don’t carry over to the full game.
So, that intro was a lie! Well, not really, because the extra HP was just there to show how powerful Link had become since his last adventure. It doesn’t make the downgrade any less annoying, though.
How to get max hearts in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
In order to get all 38 hearts in this Zelda title, you’re going to have to put in the work. Without any time-saving shortcuts, this can be long-winded and laborious. Thankfully, though, I am here for you. Here’s how you can get max hearts in Tears of the Kingdom:
- Complete all 152 shrines and interact with Goddess Statues to exchange your Lights of Blessing
- Complete main story dungeons as they reward you with one heart container each
- Complete specific side adventures like A Call From The Depths
- Exchange stamina vessels for heart containers at the cursed statue
As I previously mentioned, there are ways to increase your max hearts temporarily. Yellow hearts add to your health, with the caveat being they disappear if you take damage. Here’s how you can temporarily increase your hearts:
- Sleep on beds at inns and stables
- Create recipes with “hearty ingredients”
So, if you get your cel-shaded hands on a hearty truffle or hearty bass, hang on to them because you can cook a killer recipe with those things. Hyrule is filled with many useful ingredients, but only a few have this adjective — in short, if you cook with these ingredients, you’ll recover your hearts and gain new ones.
Below are a few recipes that will grant you yellow hearts:
- Hearty fried wild greens (full health recovery and +25 yellow hearts): 5 big hearty radishes
- Hearty fried wild greens (full health recovery and +5 yellow hearts): 1 raw bird drumstick, 1 Hyrule herb, 1 big hearty radish
- Hearty mushroom skewer (full health recovery and +12 yellow hearts): 3 big hearty truffles
- Hearty steamed tomatoes (full health recovery and +3 yellow hearts): 1 raw meat, 1 Hylian tomato, 1 hearty radish
- Hearty meat and mushroom skewer (full health recovery and +3 yellow hearts): 2 raw meat, 3 hearty truffles
At the end of the day, getting max hearts will still be a long and arduous process. Hopefully, I’ve made it a little easier for you, though.
