Dying in Blasphemous 2 is something that can tend to happen a lot. I experience this plenty in tougher games, and this one is no exception. However, dying in games can sometimes both yield and not yield consequences. For example, the standard is losing lives. In Dark Souls, you lose all your souls (leveling currency). While others, there are no downfalls when you get defeated by an enemy.
Blasphemous 2 is a tough game, its combat can be unforgiving at times. Therefore, testing players and their ability to survive through its narrative. While some enemies may look like pushovers, they will drain your health quickly, leading to an untimely demise if not careful. Because of this, I assist in detailing how dying works in Blasphemous 2. While it may seem silly, it is best to know what happens when you do so you can be cautious as you play the game. More importantly, you can be able to enjoy the game more, especially if you’re new to it.
What Dying Does in Blasphemous 2
Dying in Blasphemous 2 does have consequences. Every time the player dies, their Fervor bar (which is your MP) will shorten. In addition to getting a game over, this is what players are going to lose. Unlike Souls games, players will not lose any of their Tears of Atonement (which are currency). The same practice was present in the first Blasphemous as well. The game punishes players for dying in Blasephemous 2 but does not overdo it. Fortunately, the game also doesn’t punish you by lowering your health, which is a great relief to know.
However, because Fervor is important, with magic being useful to take down foes, it is still bad. Some of the special attacks you use require lots of Fervor. Therefore, when you die and it gets shorter, you cannot use specific attacks. This can, in turn, put you at a big disadvantage, especially later in the game. This process of losing Fervor is called “Guilt.” While it is unfortunate, there is a way for players to somewhat alleviate the symptoms.
How to Help When Dying in Blasphemous 2
While dying in Blasphemous 2 is never great, relieving your Guilt can help. To get rid of it, players can go to where they died and reclaim their bodies. The mechanic is very similar to retrieving your souls in Dark Souls. Upon doing so, you will alleviate the Guilt and restore the shortened Fervor bar. Furthermore, players also will receive some health if it is missing some, as well as Fervor. Think of it as a bonus for surviving while trying to make it to your original death location.
Additionally, if your body gets stuck in a heavily populated spot, there is another option. You can head to the Confessor. They are located near the city in case you have not seen them. Once there, you can interact with the NPC and use Tears of Atonement to well, atone. By doing so, you take Guilt of your character and restore Fervor in this way. However, this method should only be used as a last resort. Saving your Tears to purchase other more important items is necessary. Therefore, always try and see if you can reach your body without losing your life again in the process.
That is all the details to know about what dying does in Blasphemous 2. The game may look daunting and challenging. But luckily, dying in the game doesn’t have major consequences. The title brings more of The Penitent One for players to slay foes. Additionally, you can experience the world of Cvstodia and all of its gothic-style glory along with it. Just make sure to keep your awareness high as you traverse the game. Because even though dying in Blasphemous 2 isn’t as bad, losing Fervor can make things tricky.
