Revenge of the Savage Planet is filled with quests to complete, and many of them come with achievements attached. One early quest will involve you capturing a Hognork, and you’ll need to complete this quest not only for story progression, but to unlock the “In The Bag” achievement as well.
The Hognork is likely the first large creature you’ll encounter while adventuring around Stellaris Prime. It’s entirely possible to find it before you can actually do anything with it, and if that’s the case, you’ll probably perish. It’s a tough foe, but with a little guidance, you can transport it directly back to your research pen.
Why do you need to catch it? Well, aside from the achievement, you also need to research the Hognork to unlock Proton Whip Tether, otherwise known as a grapple hook. This is vital for story progression, so you have little choice in the matter.
How to catch Hognork in Revenge of the Savage Planet
Before you can capture Hognork, you’ll need to complete the following main-story tasks:
- Unlock the Pressure Hose
- Retrieve your Whip from the top of the large trunk in the fog-filled forest
Once you’ve got your Whip back, you’ll be able to begin capturing creatures. Revenge will direct you toward two smaller, easier to capture creatures as soon as you’ve retrieved your Whip, but if you want to capture the Hognork, it’s a good idea to head off-track, because it’s close by.
From the trunk where your Whip was found, head south to the Cliffs of Abaddoon teleport, and then skirt along the very edge of the map, along the cliffs northwards, as shown on the map above. You’ll find the Hognork at the watery spot circled, directly southeast of the trunk. Once you get there, remember to scan it for the Kindex, then start shooting.
Once you’ve got it’s attention, the Hognork will charge at you. You can either jump out of the way, although this is hit and miss, or use the terrain around the area to your advantage. After a charge, the Hognork will open its mouth to roar, and this is your time to strike.
The Hognork’s weak spot is right at the top of its upper jaw, right between those giant tusks. Shooting there will result in a ‘ping’, and then the Hognork will charge again. After the second charge, repeat the process of shooting at the weak spot. This second shot will stagger the Hognork, allowing you to capture it with your whip. It’s also possible to do this after one charge, if your aim is good and you get two shots on target.
If you struggle to hit that weak spot, you can scan the Hognork, and the weak spot will glow orange for a short time, helping with the aiming process.
