With the introduction of The Sims 4’s latest expansion pack, Enchanted by Nature, a lot of new fantastical features have been added to the game. A couple of these are intrinsically linked, and you’ll need to understand both to get the most out of the expansion: Ailments and the Apothecary Skill.
Ailments are illnesses that can affect any Sim at any time, and using the Apothecary Skill, a Sim can create potions, treatments, and preventatives to safeguard themselves and other Sims against them.

How to increase the Apothecary skill in The Sims 4
As with all other skills in The Sims 4, the Apothecary skill is increased by performing activities that are associated with it. The main one of these is doing tasks at the Apothecary Table. At this item of furniture, you can either craft potions or research cures, both of which will increase your skill level.
You can also increase your Apothecary skill level in the following ways:
- Research Apothecary at the computer
- Read Apothecary skill books
- Mentor other Sims in the Apothecary skill once you reach level 5
How to get Apothecary ingredients in The Sims 4
Before you can make any potions or enchantments, you’ll need to gather up the necessary ingredients to make them. These range from simple Sage and Daisies to Aura Petals and Cowplant Berries. While some (like the Cowplant Berries) come from known and specific locations, the majority of these ingredients can be located using the new Foraging interaction.
At any point, you can click the floor near your Sim and select “Forage here” or “Forage for Apothecary Ingredients” to gather up herbs and other necessary items.
Alternatively, if you want to save some time and have the funds, you can purchase Apothecary ingredients. To do this, click on the Apothecary Table and then select “Purchase Advanced Apothecary Ingredients…”

Once you begin to level up and gather ingredients, you’ll be able to make some incredibly useful potions to remove moodlets, boost luck, or otherwise prevent Ailments before they occur.
