Devs Promise There Will Be No Campaign Skip for Path of Exile 2

As Path of Exile 2 builds toward its full 1.0 release, Game Director Jonathan Rogers has addressed one of the action-RPG genre’s most debated features: the campaign skip. In a recent interview, Rogers confirmed that Grinding Gear Games will not offer players an option to bypass the story line for alternate characters or seasonal leagues, citing the core experience as essential to the identity and longevity of the game.

“We’re definitely not going to do [a campaign skip],” Rogers stated. “I think that’s really important because, honestly, I think that a lot of the reason why Path of Exile 1 is still played to this day… is because of the resets.”

According to Rogers, forcing all players to progress through the campaign during fresh ladder resets preserves a fair, competitive playing field across the community. Beyond competitive balance, the development team believes the leveling journey is critical for character progression and player immersion. Jumping straight into endgame content with a high-level character strips away the sense of earned growth that defines the genre.

“If you could just start the game and then start… at level 60 or something like that, like it’s actually really hard to get into a character when you’re starting with a bunch of stuff like that,” Rogers explained. “I wouldn’t want to ever say, ‘no, you can just skip it, don’t worry.’ I think it is a very important part.”

However, Grinding Gear Games isn’t ignoring player efficiency concerns. Instead of implementing skips, the development team is actively optimizing the campaign experience itself by streamlining map layouts, tightening zone density, and placing additional wayfinders to help experienced players navigate story acts faster on subsequent playthroughs.

Currently in early access, Path of Exile 2 is scheduled to launch its full 1.0 version on December 11, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
