The undead have risen! In the xbox live marketplace that is. State of Decay is survival horror at it’s finest, unlike other zombie survival titles such as Left 4 Dead and Dead Island, State of Decay will focus more on the survivability, stealth, evasion, distractions, base building, the survivor community, securing resources and moving through the world than actual zombie combat. Players will be able to choose from various locations in which to build a base in and structures such as watch towers, gardens, sleeping quarters, kitchens, workshops, medical bays and barricades can all be constructed in order to defend against the blighted population along with helping survivors to recover faster and build explosives and various tools.
Everything you need to survive in real life, will all be needed if you wish to survive this virtual hell-hole. Food, water, shelter, ammo and construction materials will all be necessary for survival. In order to obtain all these supplies you, as the player will be required to go out on raids to abandoned supermarkets and other various shops, but don’t forget you can also grow your own food in the garden. You may also come across fellow survivors who would be willing to trade certain resources with you, provided you have what they need of course.
All the NPCs in State of Decay will vary in skin colour and gender and they’ll also sometimes show signs of aging in the game. They’ll also set up bases for surviving which the player will be able to come across from just exploring. If you save the NPCs it will add them to the community of survivors and each NPC can be assigned a list of tasks, from running errands to collect items or scouting out the area and making sure it’s safe.
The game features 99 different guns along with 30-40 various melee weapons, which can be found around the games world. The game also features a sort of skill mechanism in which your skill level with the guns can progress and in turn it’ll leave you less likely to jam your gun, which can only be repaired at any of your home bases. Gunshots will attract zombies, but luckily you’ll have access to suppressors.
As the game opens up, you’ll find yourself playing as a character named Marcus. Marcus is a store clerk, who see’s himself as a bit of an athlete and he loves going for hikes. He’s also a born leader, which I guess in a world like this is a really good thing, eh? Anyway, upon returning from a hunting trip he ends up finding out that the world has gone to hell.
All in all, I’m REALLY excited for this game to be released. Me personally think it’s going to be one of the best survival zombie games that have ever been made. It features everything you’d need to do in real life in order to survive a zombie apocalypse. There’s a 30 minute gameplay video attached courtesy of Undead Labs for anyone interested in watching the game.
