Rumours of a sequel to hit PlayStation survival action game The Last of Us continue to persist, especially now a Naughty Dog developer may have accidentally let slip there’s a The Last of Us 2 in the works.
During a live interview for the upcoming Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection with long-time writer Josh Scherr and lead animator Eric Baldwin, Scherr said: “… [on] the first The Last of Us. Uh, did I say the first The Last of Us?”, before stumbling over his words.
It’s not an official confirmation by any means, but it’s certainly an interesting slip of the tongue by the Naughty Dog staff member. Given the critical and commercial success of the original game, it wouldn’t be at all shocking that the developer would like to create a Last of Us sequel.
This week’s revelation is the latest in a long line of rumours. Last year, we exclusively reported on a Naughty Dog developer’s LinkedIn profile alleging that he was working on The Last of Us 2. Nolan North, who voiced David in the first game, claimed earlier in 2015 that a sequel was already in development. Troy Baker, the voice behind Joel, on the other hand, quickly squashed that rumour by saying he knew nothing about it.
Was Scherr’s statement simply a slip of the tongue, or something more revelatory? We’ll let you decide for yourselves.
