Outer Wilds PC is going to be exclusive to the Epic Games Store at launch and will come to other platforms later on. We are not sure how long it will take before the game will be available on Steam. The game is crowdfunded and the backers of the game that supported it are not happy at all with this decision.
Mobius Digital, the developer behind Outer Wilds mentioned that it knows that fans want the game on different platforms. The game is going to release on Xbox One and PC but we are do not know whether it will also come to PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The fact that the developer is talking about the game coming exclusively to the Epic Games Store could mean that the release is close but we do not have an official release date for the game as of right now.
Throughout the development of the game, we’ve welcomed helpful partnerships with Annapurna Interactive, Xbox, and Epic to support us and keep our small studio running long enough to ship the game at the level of quality that it is today. Each of these partnerships has enabled us to make the game better and more accessible for everyone who will play it.
Epic Games Store is offering more money to developers so it does make sense from a developers point of view. Other than that, the store does need exclusives in order to gain some traction so you cannot really blame Epic for all these exclusives.
Other games that will not be coming to Steam at launch include Borderlands 3 and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Fans were not pleased in these cases either. It will be interesting to see whether fans are going to get these games at launch from the Epic Store or wait a while so that they can buy these games on Steam instead. We will keep you updated regarding the matter, so stay tuned for more information.
Let us know what you think about Outer Wilds PC being a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store and whether or not you are interested in playing the game on PS4 or Nintendo Switch.
