This month will see the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Racoon City Collaboration event go live, and I’m really quite excited about it. I began playing Monster Hunter World when it first launched and loved everything about it. I also recently got back into the game with the Iceborne expansion, and reminded myself of why I loved this game so much in the first place. Now there’s an in-game event on the way that brings time limited content related to Resident Evil 2 Remake with it, and I want to earn all of it. Check out the trailer for the Racoon City Collaboration below and read on for more details.
Zombies!
This wouldn’t be a crossover event with one of horror’s greatest games of recent years without zombies. The trailer makes it look as though we’ll be getting new customisation options for our hunters so that we can make them look like zombies, as well as a new emote that makes everyone shamble like a zombie. I’m really into this, but part of me also hopes that there will be an event-specific effect that can be inflicted on hunters that will turn them into zombies for a short period of time.
Zombies won’t be too much of an issue with Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield in the game. The pair will most likely appear as layered armour that can be crafted during the event. They’re a really simple touch, but so far all of the other crossover skins like this have looked fantastic, and I’ll wear them all the time if they’re there for me to craft. There’s also a Mr X skin for your main companion in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, which sees the hulking mass walk around doing everything she does. I can’t wait to witness the madness that is this insane skin, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
New Monsters
It’s not totally clear from the trailer, but it looks like this event is going to tie in with a couple of new monsters hitting Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. We already know about one of these, which the electric fur hints at right at the trailer’s start, Rajang. This guy is a colossal ape with huge horns sticking out of the side of its head. It’s a brutal fighter that will slam hunters into the ground, or pick them up and launch them across the map. Rajang can also charge up its fur somehow, which I believe will make it harder to take down since it’ll shock you with every hit. Check out the trailer for Rajang, who is live in the game right now, below.
As I pointed out, it’s not massively clear from the trailer, but I think there are more monsters coming with the Racoon City Collaboration. The second one looks like some sort of undead dragon, but I’m not sure if it’s just a variant of another monster, since there’s also a good look at an Odogaron later on. It’s possible that there will be a new monster variant for the duration of the event, transforming some monsters into horrible undead versions of themselves. Only time will tell.
Resident Evil 2 Remake
I love seeing Resident Evil 2 Remake getting a crossover event, and it’s even more special because Resident Evil 3 Remake is just around the corner! Obviously Capcom is trying to promote their next big release for 2020, but I’m just happy to see two of my favourite games come together in this weird way. This is definitely a reason to go back and play Resident Evil 2 Remake. I love the series, but unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to play the critically-acclaimed remake of Resident Evil 2 just yet. That will change soon, I promise.
I get excited about lots of different games for lots of different reasons. I try to write about as many of them as possible, check out the other games I’m excited about here.
