Sony’s State Of Play February 2021 Was Weird

Last week, Sony held a State of Play event. Usually, these are packed with announcements for the games we’ve been dying to get some news on. I was actually hoping for something about an expansion for Death Stranding, or a visual of the new PSVR. However, what we got was a couple of new trailers. Each one showed us very little that we didn’t know already. This left me and everyone else feeling a little flat. It seemed as if watching the event was a pointless venture. In this article, I’ll collect the best announcements, the ones you should care about.

New Deathloop Trailer

While this trailer does show some new gameplay off for Deathloop, it doesn’t do anything else. This is the definition of filler content. The one thing I did like was the new powers on offer. It looks like there’s a defensive power and one that makes colt invisible. Two very powerful additions to the arsenal.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade And PS5 Version

This announcement doesn’t do much to excite either. Sure, there’s a new episode for Final Fantasy 7 Remake coming, adding a new favourite character, but the only other aspect to this is the PS5 version. This is something that everyone knew was coming, so I don’t see why it got so much focus.

Returnal Game Overview

This was perhaps the most interesting video of the game we all know about. It fully explained how the world will change every time you die. Enemies will move, and nothing will be familiar. It also shows that the narrative will explore the protagonist’s memories. I’m quietly excited for this game, but the video is very little new.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Finally, Kena: Bridge of Spirits got a release date. The game has always looked phenomenal, and now we know we can pick it up on August 24. That’s quite a long time to wait for such a great-looking game, but I think it’ll be worth it. Other than this last entry though, nothing else exciting happened. It was maybe the worst State of Play I’ve seen. Although, this could be down to my expectations more than what Sony intended to show.
