During Techland’s recent Q and A session, they explained a tonne of stuff about the choices you can make in Dying Light 2. There are three main ones that will affect your game in different ways. I wanted to go through those here now because I think it’s important to outline how the story can change based on the decisions you make at certain points. For me, this is incredibly interesting, because I love the idea that there are a few narratives to explore, some of which you won’t see if you don’t make the right choices.
The first type of choice is the highest-level one. These are choices that you make in main story missions. They affect the way the story progresses, and the type of ending that you’ll get at the end of your path. There are only a few of these choices, so I imagine they’ll be sprinkled in with loads of other ones to keep them hidden. These are the ones the community will hone in on so that everyone can see all the endings as soon as possible.
The second type of choice to make is those contained within quests. Sometimes these change the world, but they’ll mostly affect the mission or side quest that you’re currently playing. These details are small though. For example, you can save an opera singer, and she’ll then appear in a hub and sing for crowds of people. Some people will hate it, others will love it. None of it happens if you don’t save the singer though. This is just a small example of one of these changes though, and I don’t think they get bigger in this choice type.
The final type of choice is the city alignment system. These are the choices that completely change your game world based on which factions are in power. These choices are pretty clear cut, and all have benefits and drawbacks. For example, if you let the Peacekeepers into an area and run it, they’ll install traps that you can use whilst in combat. Survivors, on the other hand, will install more traversal equipment like trampolines and ziplines to make getting around faster. your experience will be completely different depending on these choices.
