Dying Light 2’s Map Is Distinct And Interesting

The final question in Techland’s recent Q and A on Dying Light 2 was probably the most interesting. It was all about the game’s world, and just how diverse it is. Techland has put a lot of effort into this game, and the world in general. In total, it’s double the size of everything in the first game, including the expansion. That’s a lot of space, yet everything we see of it is packed to the gills with stuff. It’s a living world that’s so full it could burst, and yet somehow it’s also massively open.

There are two main parts to the colossal city that Dying Light 2 is set in. The first is a sort of old town area. The smaller buildings that are much older. then, there’s the downtown area. This is where the skyscrapers are, and it’s where most people will be seeking out a life for themselves. It’s better to be up high and away from the infected, so anywhere that you can get a height advantage is premium real estate. Within these areas are seven zones. Each zone can be assigned, at some point, to a faction. The zones will change according to the type of faction in control, and that will go on to shape your game world. It can look dramatically different depending on which factions you’ve sided with.

For example, the survivors will start building communities wherever they are. You’ll get ziplines and trampolines, but you’ll also see bakeries, fields, and people trying to make a more beautiful life for themselves. Peacekeepers set up barricades and outposts. They might protect the people, but they’re also pretty damn oppressive. This is something that you’ll see before your eyes as you advance the story. There will also be missions that tie in with key areas, opening up opportunities to save a lot of people, or doom them.

I think that the world sounds very polished. There’s clearly an idea here that’s been worked on over and over to refine it and turn it into a believable place. that’s what Dying Light 2 is all about, and I’m really happy to say that I think it’ll be a wonderful area to explore.
