It’s Good To Hear That Payday 3 Is Doing Well

Last week, I got to attend a lovely little press event with Koch Media. The company is responsible for a huge number of games, and they work with developers to get them out on time and market them in a way that means all fans can hear about them and appreciate them long before they get their hands on them. One of the games I got to look at was Payday 3. I’m sure you’ve seen it since, but for me, it was just a lovely wholesome part of the show. The game is ticking along in the background with no intention of being released before 2023, and that’s fine. The developers seem to be in a great space, and I expect that to make for a great game.

The Payday series has been in trouble in the last couple of years. The developers filed for bankruptcy and were afforded an opportunity to work out their finances over a year, something not all countries offer. Thankfully, the company worked things out, and now they’ve received a huge amount of funding for Payday 3. Payday 2 was their main source of income, and they expect Payday 3 to do the same, but the finding was needed to get the game moving again.

In the presentation I saw, the developers appeared relaxed and at peace that the game they’re working on is good and fully funded up until release. The company is in a much better place, and that’s exactly where a developer should be. Worrying about money will ruin a game, and could compromise its design. Here though, that’s simply not the case. There’s enough money here that this isn’t an issue, and I’m thrilled about that. I’ve played a bit of Payday 2, but I want to wait for Payday 3 now before I get too engrossed. I think that this game is going to be something special because of the journey the developers have been on with it. Hopefully, that comes across in the gameplay, and we all get to feel a little bit of what these proud developers feel right now when they sit down in the morning to make more of it.
