4 Video Games With Best Storylines to Play in 2023

People love video games not only for the gameplay but also for the plot.  We have selected 5 notable stories from video games that are enthralling and engaging. Keep in mind that it will be a spoiler-filled but short summary of the stories here, so if any game seemed interesting, it might be time to finally play it in 2023.

Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect has seen wide prominence. Various expansions have been released and even at SlotsLV, you can play slot machines that feature themes and protagonists from this game. The second part of the trilogy has become a kind of spin-off, its plot as a whole is independent. In the beginning, the protagonist’s spaceship, the Normandy, is attacked by unknown creatures – the ship is destroyed, the crew is evacuated, and the wounded Shepard falls on the surface of the nearest planet with a meteorite.

The plot is driven by two motives. First, revived by experimental technology, Shepard is forced to work for Cerberus, his new status quo arouses suspicion among his former comrades and himself. Secondly, in addition to the imminent threat of the invasion of the Reapers, the existence of which almost no one still believes, the Galaxy is now threatened by Collectors – an unknown intelligent race that kidnaps entire colonies of people during sudden attacks.

BioWare has structured the story in such a way that each crew member of the new Normandy is even more important to the story. The player will be able to feel this in the epic finale, Suicide Mission, where every mistake of Shepard as a leader leads to tragic consequences. As a result, Mass Effect 2 brings the central line to the finale of the trilogy, but it’s worth even going through it separately.

Also, Mass Effect 2 Legendary Edition is also available with additional features.

What Remains of Edith Finch

The game tells how Edith Finch visited the family home on Orcas Island in 2017 for the last time. Edith described the trip in her diary, and its chapters on individual relatives are shown from their perspective.

Edith is sure that the family is cursed: in each generation, only one child manages to survive. In 1937, her great-great-grandfather Odin, who had lost his wife and newborn child, tried to escape the corruption from Norway to the United States, taking his last daughter, Edie, with him.

Edie decided that the curse did not affect them, but her husband and four children die under strange circumstances – only the son survives. Edie turns the bedrooms of the dead into memorials, the son becomes the father of three children. Only Dawn survives to adulthood, she moves and gives birth to a trinity: Lewis, Milton and Edith Jr.

The game makes the already atypical plot more memorable with the help of numerous surprises in the gameplay itself. Playing as a schizophrenic, the gamer himself finds himself in an illusory world inside the character’s mind. Even knowing the story in advance, the game hits the emotions with small strokes and pitch – including when watching someone else’s passage.

Life is Strange

The first season of Life is Strange is an independent fantasy story, from which it is difficult not to shed a tear at least a couple of times. Teenage photographer Maxine returns to her hometown of Arcadia Bay. There she meets her childhood best friend Chloe, with whom she gradually stopped talking after her father died in a car accident, and Max moved with her parents to Seattle.

Over the years, Chloe has become a rebellious, blue-haired outcast with a disregard for literally everything. Max meets a friend moments before she is accidentally shot dead by the son of the local rich.

Then something in between good teen fiction, superheroes and The Butterfly Effect begins. Max saved Chloe, but now every day there are natural disasters: it will snow in the summer, then the whales will be washed ashore. While the storyline with the obvious meaning of “it’s either Chloe or the city” has not yet come to the fore, the girls are trying to figure out the disappearance of everyone’s favourite and Chloe’s best friend, Rachel.

Life is Strange is a powerful coming-of-age story that manages to faithfully capture the essence of the teenage worldview without going to some vulgar extremes. Chloe and Maxine initially seem like one-sided characters, but as the story progresses, they become more and more like real people.

To the Moon

Behind the visual simplicity lies a heartbreaking drama about the meaning of life and dreams. In the future, a certain company gets the opportunity to penetrate people’s memories and, at the request of customers, change them – so that you can not distinguish from reality.

To the Moon is set in the memories of a dying man named John. He doesn’t have much time left, but before he dies, he wants to fly to the moon. Scientists travelling through John’s memories must unravel his secrets and desires, which are presented in the form of simple puzzles.
