With the implementation of patch 7.21 in Final Fantasy XIV, players will finally get to enjoy the interstellar adventure of Cosmic Exploration. Here’s everything you need to know.
This new field content puts crafters and gatherers (Disciples of the Hand and Land) back in the spotlight, and is reminiscent of The Ishgardian Restoration from Shadowbringers. Players can dive into a brand new storyline, explore a fun new way to level up their DoH and DoL jobs, and earn some stellar new rewards.
How to unlock Cosmic Exploration in Final Fantasy XIV
The requirements to unlock Cosmic Exploration are staggeringly low:
- Reach level 10 with at least one DoH or DoL job
- Complete the level 90 ‘Endwalker’ MSQ quest
That’s it. Completing the main story to this point will come naturally, and reaching level 10 with a crafter or gatherer is pretty easy if you take part in Leves or simply bulk craft some low-level items.
To unlock Cosmic Exploration once you’ve completed this surprisingly short checklist, head to Old Sharlayan and talk to Namingway (X:12.6 Y:13.6) to pick up the quest ‘A Cosmic Homecoming’.
How to enter Cosmic Exploration in Final Fantasy XIV
The area associated with Cosmic Exploration is called ‘Sinus Ardorum’. Unlike other duties, you can’t just hop into Duty Finder and dive straight into this content. Instead, you’ll need to talk to an NPC called Drivingway. You will find this NPC on Mare Lamentorum (X:21.9 Y:13.2) and talk to them to get transported to Sinus Ardorum. Each time you want to take part in Cosmic Exploration activities, head back to Drivingway to begin.
How to unlock Cosmic Tools in Final Fantasy XIV
Like battle weapons, crafting and gathering tools also get their equivalent ‘relic’ tools. For Dawntrail, these are called Cosmic Tools. The tools themselves are level 10, so they will be perfect if you’re diving in at that low level.
To unlock and begin enhancing your Cosmic Tools, you’ll need to have unlocked Cosmic Exploration itself. Then, while in Sinus Ardorum, find and talk to Researchingway (X:21.1 Y:21.8). The first tool will be rewarded for completing ‘A Cosmic Homecoming’. Additional tools can also be unlocked through Researchingway.
Completing Stellar Missions and going about your general business in Sinus Ardorum will allow you to gather research data. This data can then be used to enhance your tools. Each tool has specific data that needs gathering, so you’ll need to work hard if you have multiple tools that you want to collect.
