How to Unlock Occult Crescent: South Horn in Final Fantasy XIV

Occult Crescent map

After the drought of time-consuming optional side content that was Endwalker, players have been waiting for a new challenge in Final Fantasy XIV. With the implementation of patch 7.25 on May 27, Occult Crescent is here to tick all of the boxes.

For any long-time players who have worked through Eureka or The Bozjan Southern Front questlines, Occult Crescent will be a familiar break from the MSQ. With countless beasts to take on, Critical Engagements to overcome, and a new, large-scale dungeon to work through, there’s a lot to do.

And, on top of all that, the addition of Occult Crescent also includes the first step of Dawntrail’s relic weapons, so it’s definitely worth diving in.

Sadly, unlike both Eureka and Bozja, Occult Crescent can only be entered using jobs that are level 100, the current level cap. This means that the content cannot be used for leveling alternative jobs. But there are still a myriad of excellent reasons to enter the fray.

Before you can get to unlocking Occult Crescent, you’ll need to do a couple of things:

  • Reach level 100 with any Disciple of War or Magic job
  • Average iLvl of at least 690
  • Complete the MSQ up to and including the level 100 quest “Dawntrail”

As long as you’ve got those checked off, head to Tuliyollal and talk to the Expedition Manager (X:17.1, Y:11.8) to pick up the level 100 quest “One Last Hurrah”. This is the first of three quests you’ll need to complete before you actually gain access to Occult Crescent:

As long as you’ve completed the quests laid out in the table above, you’ll then be able to enter Occult Crescent at any time by talking to Jeffroy in the Phantom Village (X:4.5, Y:6.6). To get to the Phantom Village, interact with the Passage location near Wachumeqimeqi in Tuliyollal.

Occult Crescent cannot be entered from the Duty Finder and, if you’re in a party, the party leader will need to speak to Jeffroy on behalf of the entire party.

How to unlock Phantom Weapons in FFXIV

Dawntrail’s relic weapons are called Phantom Weapons, and they’re unlocked and progressed through the completion of tasks both in and out of Occult Crescent itself. To unlock Phantom Weapons, you’ll then need to complete a quest called “Arcane Artistry” by talking to Lydiceil in the Phantom Village (X:6.6, Y:7.1).

To pick up a new weapon, complete a quest called “Forging the Phantasmal”. This quest will need to be repeated for each additional weapon you wish to unlock.
