Nintendo’s Super Mario Run has got off to a flying start, hitting the number-one spot for the most downloaded free app and highest grossing revenue on the App Store in the US, UK, and multiple other countries.
The company’s other flagship mobile title, Pokémon Go, has finally been knocked off number one spot for highest grossing app – a position it has mostly enjoyed uncontested since its release back in July.
Super Mario Run is an auto-runner, designed in the style of the critically acclaimed New Super Mario Bros. console games and developed by the same team.
The free version of the game provides access to four levels, which can be expanded to 24 via an in-app purchase of $9.99.
Investment banking firm Jefferies has projected that the title will generated up to $500 million in revenue by Q3 2017.
