Take Two has reported their financials for investors and a number of other interested parties. While the money side of things is quite ridiculous, it’s also too much to handle, so instead I thought we could look at how ridiculous the stats are for their game sales stats. Specifically, I want to look at those shared by Daniel Ahmad, a super awesome data analyst, on Twitter.
Update to Take Two title sales:
Grand Theft Auto V – 130 million units
Red Dead Redemption 2 – 31 million units
NBA 2K20 – 12 million units (+33% vs 2K19)
Borderlands 3 – 10 million units
The Outer Worlds – 2.5 million unitsGTAV doesn't include free copies via Epic Store pic.twitter.com/I60UnQM2Eo

Let’s first look at Grand Theft Auto 5. The game has sold more copies around the world than there are people in either Mexico or Japan. Think about that for a second, just how many people are in those areas. That is a lot of copies sold.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold as many copies as there are people in Mozambique by comparison, not quite as impressive. In a bit of a dark twist, 31 million is also the number of jobs that are estimated have been lost in the last five weeks. to lighten things up a little, the most expensive watch in the world sold for $31 million in 2019. I think I’d rather have 31 million copies of the game to be honest.
NBA 2K20 has sold 33 percent more units than NBA 2K19, both of which are insanely popular. With 12 million total units sold, the game can account for each person in Benin or Rwanda. 13 million is also the number of users that Microsoft has seen since the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This has pushed them past Slack’s numbers.
Borderlands 3 is at 10 million units sold, around the number of people in Sweden or Greece. Weirdly, it seems as though Toyota recently celebrated 10 million Land Cruisers being sold. It’s also the amount that the National Trust is seeking in the UK to help them restore an ancient house, a worthy cause in my opinion.
Finally, we have The Outer Worlds at 2.5 million units sold. This game is incredible, and I think that it should have sold way more copies than there are people in Gambia. Maybe the Nintendo Switch version will push it over the edge. When you look into it, 2.5 million doesn’t seem like a lot to some people. For example, there’s a 2.5 million (I have no idea what currency this is in) villa available to book right now. On a case by case basis though, it isn’t that expensive to stay there. If you were after something a bit more expensive, you can buy a luxury houseboat in London for £2.5 million. Living in a house boat isn’t supposed to be expensive, but if you’ve got the money, it’s there.
Those are just the latest ridiculous stats that we’ve looked at. If you like this type of article, then take a look at some more ridiculous stats here.
