Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold incredibly well, ridiculously well some might say. The most recent figures show that the game has now sold 10 million digital units, an astounding number of units for a Nintendo Switch game to sell via the eShop only. The game is basically a worldwide phenomenon at this point, so let’s explore the digital unit sales for a laugh shall we?
10 million people is the number of people required to live in a city before it can be relabelled as a megacity. If you’re unsure of what kind of city is a megacity, the list includes Bangalore, Beijing, Delhi, London, Mexico City, and even Osaka. These cities are absolutely insane, and have so many people crammed into one place. In the UK, London is one of the most desirable places to live for many people, but that means that the cost of everything is extortionate. You’d probably need £10 million just to buy a house.
10 million downloads is what Pokemon Masters managed to hit in just four days. Granted, this is a free game, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a hefty price tag, but it’s still impressive.
10 million is the number of free meals that McDonald’s served to frontline workers over the past few months of isolation. This figure was as of May 6, so they’ve probably served another 10 million since then. Locations of McDonald’s restaurants are reopening around the world now, so I’m sure they’ll be back to doing this many a day in no time.
Weirdly Animal Crossing: New Horizons now shares a milestone with the Toyota Rav 4. The car sold 10 million units in total as of April 10 this year, a couple of weeks after the latest Animal Crossing game had launched. I’d argue that Animal Crossing: New Horizons can outsell the Toyota Rav 4 in digital sales within weeks now.
Finally, 10 million is the number of players that Sea Of Thieves has managed to gain since launch. With the recent Steam release, I bet this has nearly doubled by now.
